Maintaining and caring for your golf cart batteries is crucial to ensure peak performance and longevity. Just like the heart of your golf cart, these batteries power your rounds on the course, so it’s essential to keep them in top shape.  The following are some key tips to help you achieve this.

  • Regular Charging: Golf cart chargers do not trickle feed, so make it a habit to plug in and charge your golf cart batteries after each use, even if you haven’t completely depleted them. This prevents deep discharges, which can shorten battery life. Also, be sure to use the dedicated golf cart charger designed for your battery type to ensure the most efficient charging cycles. *Please note, Club Car’s do require you to unplug and replug the recepticle in (if the cart has been sitting with the recepticle in) to ensure it re-commences the charging process.
  • Proper Watering: If your golf cart batteries are of the lead-acid type, regularly check and maintain the water level in each cell. Keep the water level above the minimum mark but below the maximum. Use distilled water and avoid overfilling.
  • Clean Connections: Clean the battery terminals and cables to ensure a good electrical connection. Corrosion can hinder the flow of power and lead to inefficiencies.
  • Store with Care: During the off-season, store your golf cart and its batteries in a cool, dry place. Disconnect the batteries and periodically recharge them to prevent sulfation or periodical discharge, both common issues that occurs during extended periods of inactivity. We recommend daily charging when the cart is frequently used, and weekly charging if the cart is being stored.
  • Inspect for Damage: Regularly inspect your battery casing for cracks or damage. If you notice any issues, address them promptly to prevent further damage or acid leaks.
  • Follow Manufacturer Recommendations: Always follow the maintenance guidelines provided by the battery manufacturer and Carts’n’Parts Australia. Different battery types (e.g. Lead Acid, No Maintenance, and Lithium) require specific care routines.

By following these simple maintenance practices, you can ensure that your golf cart batteries provide reliable power for many rounds to come, saving you time, money, and frustration in the long run. Proper care not only enhances your golf cart’s performance but also ensures you do not void your warranty. It is important to note, that Carts’n’Parts Australia can access the data of the Cart’s charger to see the charging history and analyse whether its been charged and discharged correctly in its life.
